With the maritime industry growing at a rate of knots, so too is the need for seafaring professionals to man the ships. ISO has just published new international career guidance to ensure no one is lost at sea.

ISO/PAS 24438, Ships and marine technology – Maritime education and training – Maritime career guidance, is a powerful tool for anyone considering a career in the industry as well as for maritime professionals assessing their future goals and career path. It covers a wide range of considerations such as personal circumstances and academic background; previous work experience, knowledge and skills; short- and long-term goals; education and training requirements; current and future job opportunities, and much more.

The publicly available specification will help professionals make the best decisions to reach their career objectives while helping ship owners, shipyards and other industry stakeholders meet increasing demands for quality, trained staff.

ISO/PAS 24438 was developed by ISO technical committee ISO/TC 8, Ships and marine technology, whose secretariat is held by SAC, ISO’s member for China. It is available from your national ISO member or the ISO Store.
